As a partner of the Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI), MTBMA volunteered our time to assist with this year’s Engineering and Construction Career Day held on Thursday, May 16th at the Baltimore War Memorial Building in Baltimore City.
Every year, MdQI hosts this event for area high school STEM program students to have an opportunity to meet with engineer firms, construction companies, MDOT representatives, colleges, and other companies to learn about the many career opportunities in the transportation construction industry. Students benefit from this one-on-one time to learn about the array of jobs and are rotated to different stations throughout the day.
This is the 3rd year in a row MdQI has hosted a Career Day specifically for Baltimore City schools and welcomed over 170 students from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Patterson High School, National Academy Foundation, Western High School, Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School, Edmondson Westside High School, and Coppin Academy High School.
MTBMA had several members who were generous enough to be a sponsor of this great event and offered their time to demonstrate and teach about the many different skills and tools required for these jobs including heavy equipment, land surveying, materials and aggregates, technology, and more.
